A Trauma Narrative’s purpose is to desensitize the child of trauma triggers and reminders. Conversing about traumatic events decreases avoidance and removes the negative emotions and feelings from these destructive memories. Your child will be therapeutically guided through a process to support his/her ability to re-encounter the traumatic event/s. Throughout the course of treatment, your child will be encouraged to discuss the darkest moments he/she has experienced. As a result, cognitive distortions will be uncovered and a flexible more manageable perspective of the trauma is created.
Trauma Narratives release the burden of negatively charged emotions harboring inside your child. The emotions surrounding the traumatic event/s often maintain the ugly cycle of PTSD. As your child confronts their overwhelming emotions within a safe space, they will emotionally and physically learn how to regulate their discomfort. These repeated exposures decrease the intensity and provide security for the challenges of future encounters.
Designed specifically for clients who have experienced a traumatic event.
